"Nothing haunts you like the things you didn’t buy… trust me, I’ve been there too many times."
– From one funky homeware lover to another.
Bring a burst of colour and a slice of heritage into your kitchen with these stunning handmade chapati rolling pins.
Lovingly crafted by artisans from the Vadha community in the village of Nirona, Gujarat. Each piece is a celebration of tradition, patience and pure artistry.
It all begins with a carefully carved wooden base. The artisans then layer brightly coloured natural lacquer by hand, applying heat while the rolling pin spins on a simple, foot-powered lathe. As the colours melt and merge, they’re skilfully guided into the distinctive zig-zag patterns that make Nirona lacquerware so instantly recognisable. No two pieces are ever exactly the same — each one carries the rhythm, movement and personality of its maker.
This centuries-old craft is now practised by only a few remaining families on the edge of Nirona village, working with the most basic tools but an extraordinary level of expertise. By choosing one of these rolling pins, you’re not just adding a joyful pop of colour to your home — you’re helping keep a rare and precious craft alive.
And with so many joyful variations, you don’t choose the chapati rolling pin… the rolling pin chooses you. And honestly, how wonderful is that?
And remember: because each piece is handmade, they like a little gentle TLC — so it’s handwash only, please. Good things deserve good care. 💛
Perfect for everyday use, a vibrant decorative piece, or a meaningful gift for anyone who loves handmade treasures with a story.
